Please join us on Wednesday, March 13 at Leo Baeck Temple for a screening of the short film, Eve, followed by a discussion with filmmaker Susan Bay Nimoy and HOPE Connection’s Executive Director, Dr. Jo Christner.

Members of the HOPE community may be especially interested in Eve because the filmmaker, Susan Bay Nimoy, found inspiration to create the film following the death of her husband, renowned actor Leonard Nimoy. “It was a profound loss for me,” says Nimoy, “I sunk into a deep dark hole, and I didn’t want to live. I wanted to die. And I actually kind of did.”

Working through her grief led Nimoy to begin writing what became the script for Eve. But then a turn of events affected her directly and personally. The actress hired to portray Eve changed her mind — she couldn’t face the prospect of portraying on film intimate scenes with a younger man, and Susan stepped into the role to play the lead part.

Eve eventually screened at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, and the protagonist’s journey through grief and ultimately to renewal is a journey many in the HOPE community will identify with.

Dr. Jo Christner will join Susan in a discussion following the screening, bringing her experience and expertise as a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in trauma, grief and loss to elicit insights from Nimoy and encourage the audience to participate.
