Martha received her Master of Arts Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena in 1991 and has been licensed since 1993. She went on to earn a post-graduate Certificate in Family Therapy from Southern California Counseling Center in 1994 and a Doctor of Psychology Degree in Psychoanalysis from the Newport Psychoanalytic Institute in 2007. A passionate teacher, Dr. Carr has been adjunct faculty for NPI, Alliant University, Pacific Oaks College, Antioch University and was a part-time associate professor for California State University, Northridge for 20 years in the graduate school of Education, Psychology and Counseling. She is an AAMFT and a CAMFT Approved Supervisor and a longtime member of both professional organizations including past Co-President of Los Angeles Chapter of CAMFT.
Martha integrates a psychodynamic and humanistic approach working with individuals, couples and families from the creative or dramatic arts, especially those in the music, film and television industry. Her clients range in age from young adult to seniors dealing with relationship problems, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, as well as the challenges of working in creative industries.
