Watch this short TedX talk by Molly Carroll about the power of human connection.
When your spouse or partner dies, you lose the person that you’ve probably been most intimately connected with. As you grieve you then begin to realize that your connection is not gone but fundamentally changed.
If you join a support group, you start to make connections with other people who truly understand what you are feeling, and you develop an understanding of what they are feeling. Redefining your connection to your loved one and making new connections with other people are parts of the process of healing — incredibly important parts.
There are other connections you can cultivate to encourage healing:
- In Nature, you can connect to something deep and spiritual.
- With pets, you can connect to unconditional love and comfort.
- With prayer, you connect to God or a Higher Power.
- With meditation, you can connect to peace, calm and a higher consciousness.
Please send us a note and let us know your thoughts about “connecting” by emailing OneWord@hopegroups.org. It can be as simple as a word that resonates with you — or any other thought you’d like to share. We’ll publish some of your responses in next month’s newsletter. We’ll only cite your first name, or please add “from anonymous” if you’d prefer your name not be mentioned.
Here are some questions you might consider:
- What connections are helping you to heal?
- Where do you feel connected?
- How can you connect to others?
- What does connection mean to you?
